  • Participate in The Black History Month Beanstack Challenge to win themed swag!  
  • Enjoy coloring, crafts, and book displays in every library. 
  • View the “Celebration of Haitian Art Display” exhibit at Central Library. 
  • Enjoy Shark City Drumming and Dancing Corps at Indian River Library on Saturday, February 3, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
  • Play Black History Bingo at Major Hillard Library from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7 and 21. 
  • Discover how a spy helped slaves escape, “History Alive: Eliza Baines and the Underground Railroad” at Major Hillard Library on Monday, February 12, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
  • Cook healthier, Southern-Style at the “Heart Healthy Food Demonstration” at Major Hillard Library on Saturday, February 17, from 11:00 - noon.
  • Explore Black music and poetry by “Honoring the Ancestors” at Russell Memorial Library on Saturday, February 17, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. 
  • Hear the story of the Buffalo Soldiers, “The Cuffeytown 13: a Buffalo Soldier's Tale” at South Norfolk Memorial Library on Sunday, February 18, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
  • Learn how schools educated freed Americans, “Educating the Free: Cornland and Rosenwald Schools” at South Norfolk Memorial Library on Thursday, February 22, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
