A seed library supports sustainability and food security by providing community access to a variety of seeds, at no cost. Seeds include donated and open-pollinated vegetable, herb and flower varieties.
Request up to three seed packets from the Seed Library. Visit Major Hillard Library and complete a seed request form. Call Major Hillard Library to request a seed delivery to any Chesapeake Public Library. Please allow 3 to 5 business days for delivery.
Each packet contains roughly enough seeds for 3 to 5 plants. Not all seeds germinate, most packets contain 10 to 15 seeds.
The Seed Library has information on how to grow different seeds. More information can be found on the Seed Library page.
Donate seeds. We prefer open pollinated or heirloom varieties. Please include common name, type and variety, name of grower and date of harvest.
