The Three Little Pigs

Three pigs - Hungry wolf - Straw house - Huff and puff - Stick house - Huff and puff - Brick house - Wolf stew

Can you build the little pigs a better house?

  • 25 index cards, 3 X 5
  • Masking tape: 12 inches of 2” wide tape or 24 inches of 1” wide tape
  • Light card board, such as a cereal box, 8” X 11”
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Fan with three settings

Using index cards and tape, build a house with a roof. The house must be at least 8 inches tall and fit on the cardboard. See if you can't finish building within 20 minutes.

Now, set your house four feet from the fan. Turn the fan on low. Still standing? Increase the speed to medium, then high. Did your house survive? If it did, move it to three feet from the fan and test again. Still standing? Move it closer!

Huff and Puff Paint

  • Card stock or other heavy paper
  • Liquid watercolor paint, watered-down food coloring or watered-down tempera paint
  • Dropper
  • Drinking straw, cut in half
  • Tray
  • Drawing materials, optional

Place the paper on a tray (this project can get messy).

Drop paint onto the paper.

Using the straw, blow the paint all over the paper

Repeat steps 1 and 2 with more paint and more colors until you are satisfied with your design. Try blowing the colors into each other to mix them.

Set aside to dry and start over with a new sheet of paper!

Once the paint is dry, add features and details to make pictures.
